FESTIVAL CITY WINDS MUSIC SOCIETY AND THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CHOIR EXPLORE LIGHTS OF THE CITY
Edmonton, AB – The Festival City Winds Advanced Band, under the direction of Artistic Director Wendy J. Grasdahl, in collaboration with the First Presbyterian Church Choir (Marnie Giesbrecht & Joachim Segger, Music Directors) are pleased to present City of Lights taking place on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 7:30 PM at First Presbyterian Church (10025 105 Street). There will also be performances by Duo Majoya and soloists Betty Kolodziej (soprano) and Ron Long (tenor).
While Paris is often referred to as the City of Lights, other cities in the world are also known for their lights. The Festival City Winds Advanced Band takes us to a few of these cities with music of George Gershwin (New York City), the classic ballad I Left My Heart in San Francisco, and to New Orleans or Chicago with Canadian composer Robert Nathaniel Dett’s After the Cake Walk. Both the Advanced Band and the First Presbyterian Church Choir also explore how city lights can serve as beacons of “home” providing safe passage and invitation to those who are lost, or who have been away from home through settings of hymns, gospel music, and the like. The evening is rounded out with performances by Duo Majoya and vocalists Betty Kolodziej and Ron Long.*
Tickets for City of Lights are $12 for Adults and $5 for Children (12 and under), and can be purchased at the door.
