Church School

Our Church School runs on the rotation model (www.rotation.org), which is a great way to try out different learning styles in an in-depth exploration of the stories of the Bible.  We have fun and learn a lot!  Stories we’ll be covering this year include the Calling of the Disciples, the story of Lazarus, Moses and the Ten Commandments, Jesus as a child in the Temple, and Jonah and the Whale.  We sing songs, play games, make art, and get to know Jesus and His plan for our lives. If you’re interested in becoming a teacher or a teacher’s assistant, or if you have any questions about our curriculum or teaching methods, we’d love to hear from you!  Contact youth@firstpresbyterian.ca for more details.

Church School Information

We don’t have formal enrollment — your child can jump in at any point.  We do ask parents of younger children to come up with them, at least at first.  Feel free to chat with our teachers about your child’s capabilities or needs.  There are always two adults upstairs with the children, one who is leading the lesson, and one who is in charge of maintaining order and watching out for the youngest children.  We have a mixed-ages group, so we try to strike a balance between engaging the older children and entertaining the younger ones.   One note:  please do make sure your child has visited the washroom before attending church school.

Nursery Care

While we do not offer nursery care, there is a fully-equipped nursery in the church school room, and we encourage parents to make arrangements among themselves to trade off care.
